2N5584 Description

General Overview
The Microchip Technology 2N5584 is a high-frequency NPN bipolar junction transistor (BJT) designed for low-noise and high-gain amplification applications. It is optimized for use in RF amplifiers, signal processing circuits, and other high-speed analog applications. The device is engineered to provide excellent linearity, low noise figure, and reliable performance across a wide range of frequencies, making it suitable for precision analog and communication systems.

Electrical Characteristics
The 2N5584 operates with a collector-to-emitter voltage (VCEO) rating of 20 V and a collector-to-base voltage (VCBO) of 30 V. It is capable of handling a maximum collector current (IC) of 50 mA, which is sufficient for low-power amplification stages. The transistor has a typical DC current gain (hFE) of 100 at IC = 10 mA and VCE = 10 V, providing high amplification in small-signal circuits.

Frequency and High-Speed Performance
The 2N5584 is designed for high-frequency applications, with a transition frequency (fT) of 300 MHz typical. This allows the transistor to maintain significant gain at radio frequencies and enables efficient amplification of RF signals. Its low capacitance and optimized internal structure support fast switching and high-speed signal handling in analog and communication systems.

Noise Performance
The transistor features low noise characteristics, with a typical noise figure of 2 dB at 50 MHz and IC = 5 mA. This low noise performance is essential for RF front-end amplifiers, high-fidelity audio circuits, and sensitive sensor interfaces, ensuring minimal signal degradation in precision analog designs.

Thermal and Power Handling
The 2N5584 can safely operate at junction temperatures up to 150°C, providing robust performance in environments with varying thermal conditions. Its total power dissipation (PD) is rated at 350 mW when mounted on a suitable PCB with proper heat dissipation, ensuring stable operation under moderate load conditions without risk of thermal damage.

Package and Mechanical Features
The 2N5584 is supplied in a standard TO-92 through-hole package, which allows easy prototyping and manual assembly. The package is compact and widely used in both hobbyist and industrial applications. The three-lead configuration (collector, base, emitter) supports straightforward PCB layout and connection in analog signal circuits.

Applications

* RF and high-frequency amplifiers
* Low-noise preamplifiers for communication systems
* Signal processing and analog front-end circuits

I burnt a bootloader using Avrdude at commandline to each of the 10 MCUs, then uploaded a double-blinking LED code to each one. They worked like a charm. They are all great and have ATmel on them so they seem genuine. No lemons! Very fast shipment as well.
